Frequently Asked Questions
What is Montgomery County Dispatch?
Montgomery County Dispatch is the sole Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in Montgomery County. Montgomery County Dispatch processes Emergent and Non-Emergent calls for service through three 911 lines and three administrative lines (859-498-8720). The two Dispatchers on duty then dispatch appropriate Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS services to the Calls for Service.
911 Where is your emergency?
Why is this the first question you are asked when you call 911? If we don't know where you are it doesn't matter what kind of help you need we cannot get them to you. Even if we don't know the current situation if we know where you are we can send some kind of help to you even if it isn't what you need. If some type of first responder gets on the scene they can assess the situation and call for appropriate back up.
Why do we ask so many questions?
In order to send appropriate services to the correct location dispatchers need to ask in depth questions. We cannot see what is going on we can only listen to what the caller tells us. Answering these questions to the best of the caller's ability is the quickest way to get appropriate help in any emergency situation.
What do I do if I've been in a collision, but had to leave the scene?
If you have been in an collision and left the scene you can file a civilian collision report. More information about civilian accident reports can be found on KSP Civilian Collision Reports.
